Gyro Zone Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Do agree with others that perhaps the meat amount is not what is used to be. :( The flavors are still delish and the new interior is nicer. As always, call your order in if you want take out.

After getting my Mediterranean food fix primarily on the Eastside near my work, an errant craving for shawarma led me to seek out the good stuff closer to home. A friend recommended Gyro Zone, so we called in a to-go order, brought it home and were immediately hooked. This past weekend, we ate inside for our second trip and we were equally impressed. I've personally had the chicken shawarma, the chicken kabob, the falafel salad and the falafel plate. My husband has had the lamb shawarma. Everything is beyond amazing and the service is great. We were willing to wait a bit for the kabobs when we were there this weekend - while we sat at a table, idly watching rugby, we were brought complimentary warm pitas and hummus. And that hummus? It's to-freakin-die-for. Seriously, throw all your money at this place. Right now. Don't wait. What are you doing?! ALL THE FALAFELS AWAIT YOU!

I live in California but come to Washington at least once a year to visit my family. We always visit Gyro Zone at least once during my visits and have always gotten awesome gyros. I always loved walking in and seeing the writing on the tile wall and knowing I am about to have a great meal. With my most recent visit the place has been renovated, great! With more seating. The owners may have changed as well cause we didn't recognize anyone on the back. We ordered our usual gyro with fries and took it home. Unfortunately the gyro meat was cut up in tiny pieces which made the experience very different from eating a gyro, the meat was galling out everywhere and it was stir fried in some kind of reddish adobo type sauce...are you kidding me?! You can barely taste the white sauce. Very disappointed....also the dude charged me .30 more than what the sign says the cost is for a side of small fries. Done with this place.

My honey and I would eat here occasionally when we were still on that side of the state when we wanted Greek. Since we have moved back to Spokane I find myself thinking about this restaurant on a regular basis! I crave the food all the time and worse I know I can't find anything as good in spokane. Plus it wouldn't be the same without the awesome guys that work there! Thick Greek accents and the best food. I miss you!!!

Best Gyros Ever! Everything was fresh and delicious. I came with my son and granddaughter for Mothers Day lunch and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had gyros and my son had schwarma and we all shared the Greek fries. Its in a great location that's easily accessible and we had no problems finding it. They have quite an interesting menu selection and when my granddaughter asked for no tomatoes and onions, the gentleman said "no problem". We didn't have room for dessert because the gyros were so big, but maybe next time. We will definitely go back again because I want to try some of their lamb dishes. They have beef, chicken and lamb gyros. They have salads and fries and they even have Greek Coffee. All in all it was a fantastic experience and I enjoyed the food very much!

We both had gyros and shared a Greek fries and, wow, was it delicious. Highly recommend the Greek fries if you are into gratuitous amounts of feta cheese and Greek yogurt sauce. So yummy!!!

Not bad, but not great. Read Tacoma News Tribune Sue Kidd's review and had to try this place out. Had the fried cauliflower pita and a falafel pita. Well seasoned sandwiches. However, nothing special. Also, I thought I may have ordered too much food for one person. It turned out just enough (for me). The portions were not that big. The place is under new ownership and the new crew appeared to be working at upgrading this to a full service sit down type resturant instead of a walk up counter type establishment. The menu looked promising. Unfortunately they have a long way to go given the thrift store conditions of their furnishing and paper/plastic service ware. If you don't have great food, the shoddy ambiance just won't work to justify the cost charged. My meal was $13 to include the change I left in the tip jar. Not the best meal deal in the area. However, it is the only gyro, Mid-eastern Geek type food source in University Place. May go back to try their meat items. But not likely given the two really good Greek place in Tacoma and puyallup for lamb kabob and gyro for about same price and better portions.

Extremely tasty food, low prices, great customer service. I would eat here every day if I lived in the area. Their hummus is sooooo creamy and smooth with just the right amount of olive oil and flavors. Thank God they only give you a set amount of pita bread because I would just keep eating that tasty perfectly toasted pita bread. Note: Oddly enough they (pre) warn you of a 50cent charge if using your credit card. Definitely a weird business model - why not just upcharge your food to make up for that?! Who caries cash anymore???

Went in again tonight after another Trader Joes trip and the owner was actually on duty. Very nice man and the difference in food preparation showed. I did not have to rearrange my gyro today YAY! The owner gave us an order of their greek fries on the house and they were probably the best fries I have ever eaten! Fries, greek sauce and feta...YES PLEASE! They seem to be a staple at that place because everyone who came in after us and the couple eating when we sat all ordered them...I think he gave them to us for free because we were the only person who didn't order them and knew we hadn't experienced the greatness that is the Greek French Fries. I will definitely be ordering those again. There was so much food I could barely eat my Gyro, which meant I started picking it apart....eating the meat from the Gyro with the Greek Fries, now that was a yummy pairing....and with this I request they consider making a "Greek Nacho"....basically take your existing fries and throw that meat right on top...omg that would be heaven. Not sure if the owner reads this or not...but if you do, please consider the greek nacho :)

Some days you just feel like a good gyro, but today I ate the best I've ever had. I am here on business and saw the reviews for Gyro Zone and decided to check it out. This little hole in the wall shop is a treasure. The lamb was seasoned so unique. I would never have thought of tumeric! The staff there were so kind and attentive. Their shop was very clean. It was well worth my drive. Do yourself a favor and come out to support these local geniuses.

I've NEVER had greek food before. So since I was in the neighborhood my kids and I decided to stop by the other day and try something after drooling over the pictures here on Yelp. We had the classic gyro and a large order of greek fries. It was AMAZING! We shared the order because I did not want to waste money on something they haven't tried before and have them end up not liking it. Well, I should have gotten at least 2 orders. I only got ONE bite and they devoured the rest! The fries were to die for!! What I loved about the bite of gyro I had was the meat was nicely seasoned, tender, and everything in it was SO good!! I will be back to try out something new next time! ***Sorry no pix! It was so good that by the time I thought of taking a picture for Yelp... the food was gone! Next time tho', I promise ;)!

The best Greek food around for sure! --I've tried them all in the area & these guys know what they're doing!! I never thought I would order the Greek fries, but I'm so happy I did!!! -Seriously an orgasm in my mouth....YUM!!! The pita's were the BEST I've ever had...Nice and crisp! I do think the meat could use a little more flavor, but overall everything was wonderful!! Order ahead or else you will be waiting!! -But be patient....Remember, they're making everything fresh!!!

Accustom to authentic mediterean food its more arabic though. had gyro and falafel which was ok but i liked the most was the greek fries.

Whenever I try a new Gyro joint I go for the standard; Classic Gyro and Fries. This place exceeded my expectaions! I ordered the small greek fries and there was nothing small about them. I barely put a dent in them and didnt finish my gyro all the way. Very filling and for $13 (gyro, fries, and drink) it was well worth it. If I am back in the area I will be stopping in!

The best Gyro I've had in Washington! My whole family loves this place. Gyros plate has amazing flavor, their hummus is very good. The tzatziki sauce is excellent. A nice little Greek salad included. All fresh and very tasty. I almost always order an extra gyro as it won't go to waste around my family. IMHO the only place to go in the Tacoma area if your craving a gyro

Their food is just delicious and fulfilling. If you like arabic food then you're definitely gonna love their food. Great customer service and environment.

This place is really just ok. It was FREEZING, no heat in this place at all, made it very uncomfortable. They don't have a soda machine, so when you upgrade to a meal, you get to choose your soda from a cooler, that had tons of cheap Shasta sodas in it. I thought the Greek fries were ok; the two Greek restaurants by freight house square, the one in freight hourse square, and the one by the Tacoma dome have better "Greek fries". Gyro zones Greek fries didn't hold up well with everything on them. The Gyro itself was ok, it didn't have very much sauce, so it was pretty dry, tasted well, just ok. I really don't think that I'll be back, I'm going to stick with It's Greek to me, and other places here in Tacoma, because everyone else seems a lot better, just a personal preference I guess.

It's been a long time coming trying to find a place that can replicate "true" Greek fries, but this is the place.

  • Leah J.

What I think authentic Greek food would taste like! You walk in and are greeted by a friendly Greek man with a thick accent (he's always the only one working when I've been). I decided on the #22, the beef and lamb gyro to go (both times I've been there). Once you've ordered, you are told to take a seat and pay when the food is ready. Each time I've felt like it takes forever, then I pay and think "Wow, expensive!". Finally I dig in and think "This is awesome, how did he cook this so quickly? There's so much food, I'll have leftovers!" I'm not sure about all the dishes, but mine comes with a very small Greek salad and some hummus. It is the best Hummus I've ever had! The reason for only four stars is because They need to hire another employee or two so someone can take the orders while the other person cooks the food. Also it's still just a tad bit overpriced for me. I still highly recommend this place and will be back often!

We went there for the first time yesterday and ordered Chicken Shawarma. We were disappointed when we found out that orders after 8pm are take-out only. I thought that the Shawarma's would be soggy after a 20 minute drive home. However, we were pleasantly surprised how yummy they are! The meat was well seasoned, lettuce fresh, onions deliciously roasted, flatbread nice and chewy and the sauce was fantastic. Compared to all the other Shawarma's I had, this one had a very unique flavor. We will definitely be back for more! We were also disappointed that Greek Fries was not available to order at 8:30pm because they already cleaned their fryer. Don't be fooled by the 9pm closing time. Give them your orders before 8pm.

  • Eric M.

A little slow at times for take out. Especially when they get busy. But simple solution is to call ahead. Staff always super friendly and immediately remembered my name and always try to cater to your eating choices. The decor could be better. I would consider it more of a hole in the wall so not the best place to go on a date. But great place to get food to go if you wanted to suprise that special somebody at work. A hole in the wall? Yes, but it is my hole in the wall :)

  • Jo R.

Best and most filling gyro I've had. Softest Pita! Their Greek fries are delicious and they're really well priced. I was actually surprised. I had been wanting to eat here for a long time but the place was closed every time I made it there. Glad to see its open for business again. I ate here last night but I'm actually considering having lunch here haha!

3rd time back in a month. What can I say we think this place is pretty kick ass. We got the Gyros and they were so good I kinda wanted to high five the cook + we got an order of stuffed grape leaves on the house & to be honest I'm normally not a fan but they were legit. The staff is extremely nice and there is plenty of seating if you want to kick back & relax while you eat. We will probably be back again soon :)

    (5)
  • Gee H.

Ate here several times and it seems to be hit and miss. The tomato should be red?not green or tail end. Lettuce should be green not white. Please stop using core of lettuce to save money. Your gyros are at the top of price point for U.P please use quality produce. And give your customer what they are paying for! Meat is overspiced most of the time and cucumber sauce shouldn't be so thin.I think that if you TAKE OUT they use lower quality ingredients. Check food before you leave is my advice.

The hubs and I come here practically every week. We get two lamb gyros and a large order of Greek fries. Delicious. Scrumptious. We've tried other items on the menu, but we simply prefer the above items. Pay with cash. There is an additional fee for using cards.

  • Tori R.

Stopped in for lunch. Staff was very friendly. Food was great. My friend and I split the traditional gyro and falafel sandwich. Gyro was amazing! Possibly best I've ever had. Falafel was alright, but downright lackluster when compared to the gyro. Affordable great lunch spot.

We recently moved to UP from Florida and have a serious problem with the lack of options for takeout in UP. I love Mediterranean food but had yet to try Gyro Zone until a couple of weekends ago. I had the chicken gyro and Greek fries. Holy deliciousness. I'll be back for sure!

    (5)
  • Katrina L.

Falafel plate and Greek fries. Very very tasty. Great blend of spices and freshly made. My only compliant is the rice was dry. It is by far the best Mediterranean food I've had since moving to WA a few years ago. I don't know if it's a blessing in disguise that I don't live closer to this venue. I would eat here daily. But my husband will begin traveling by for work, so I can get some Greek goodness almost weekly. Just a heads up, go here for the food, not the decor. It's clean but very simple.

  • Sunhiko C.

The food here is great! As many times as I've been here, I've never been disappointed~ Takes a bit longer to get food, so I'd call in beforehand to make the wait a little less longer, but it's all worth it in the end. Quality food every time! This isn't "fast food" and you know they put in their time and care into making your food for you, which I appreciate. The Greek fries here are AMAZING~! Always get them whenever I come here to eat. I also get the chicken shawarma and it never disappoints. The service here is very kind and welcoming. Wish the TV would be turned on whenever I come here to eat though haha.

This place is AMAZING! I've eaten here twice so far and LOVE IT! Can't wait to have my next Gyro or Greek fries! So much flavor with each bite! Very Impressed with the quality of the food and overall atmosphere! They are 5 stars all the way!

Best Mediterranean food!!! We eat here once a week or so and it is by far our favorite. We usually get a traditional gyro and a large Greek fry. Never ever disappoints! Highly recommend.

This is my second time reviewing this place, since Yelp thought it was a good idea to filter out my first review. So far I've tried the dolmas, greek fries, chicken shawarma, chicken gyro, beef shawarma, falafel as a side and what I think was the felafel sandwich. (it was in a pita) This was my first time trying dolmas, so I really can't tell you if these particular ones are gross, or if I just don't like dolmas.. All I know is that I'm not a fan of these. They were fun to try, but I won't be ordering them again. They felt greasy, cold, and they kind of left a weird film on my tongue. My mom enjoyed them tho. Chicken shawarma/gyro and beef shawarma were all good, but I definitely enjoyed the falafel sandwich the most. If I get a shawarma, gyro, or sandwich again, I'll definitely ask for extra tahini. The sauce is very good, so getting extra won't hurt. Greek fries were pretty good. The fries themselves are average. It's hard to find decent fries in this area, but it's what they're topped with that makes them stand out imo. This is my mother's favorite thing from here and she gets them whenever she goes. When we asked for a side of falafel to go, they were good, but kind of dry. A bit of sauce on them would have helped that, but it's no big deal. I don't have any major complaints about this place. My mom usually picks up the food for me, so I haven't actually dealt with them myself, but she says the staff are all super friendly!

THIS PLACE IS AWESOME!!! Not only is the customer service superb, but the food is always delicious. As someone who used to eat middle eastern food religiously back home and also worked for one for a few months, I can say that this place makes excellent food. Be prepared for a typical 10 minute wait if you order there, but it is well worth the wait! After finding this place, I literally went back almost everyday for about 2 weeks. All the employees are very nice, the food is always wonderful, and the owner (or I believe he is the owner) is very humble. Gyro Zone is a far trip for me, but well worth it! I used to eat at the place in Tacoma Mall, but I will never go back after eating at the Gyro Zone! My only, only gripe is that I wish the pickles were more sour :3 I love sour middle eastern pickles. Theirs taste more like olives. Edit: They have been making their pickles a bit more sour than previously which I have been enjoying!

  • Lindsey H.

We used too come here a couple years ago and the good Was great, now it's been taken over by the brother/son, i don't know, away the food is not the same and the cucumber sauce is watery and they don't use enough! Even if we ask for extra on them its still dry.....it is a specific unique food that you have to like, and maybe its just not my style of food. I wouldn't NOT recommend as someone else may love this type of food.

  • Sabrina S.

This place is still great and is highly recommended. We don't stop in too often but it is reliably good each time we visit and the staff are attentive and friendly. Try the beef and lamb place, it is delicious and perfectly spiced.

This place is awesome! I used to come here back in high school when it was under different ownership and the plymouth K car was parked in the parking lot for advertising. I didn't think it could get any better but the new owners have really done a tremendous job. I recommend the lamb!

I live about a 2 minute walk away from here and ever since I tried it the first time, I come back usually more than once a week. All I ever crave is this place. The Dolma is AMAZING and extremely flavorful. The Gyro's are always made with the perfect amount of sauce/toppings and an amazing amount of meat in them as well, and don't get me started on the Greek Fries. They are amazing. Not to mention the prices for what you get are excellent as well. The building itself is pretty old and cold most of the time. The staff is incredibly friendly making the place feel warmer than it really is. One of the men that work there always smiles when people walk in asking how they are doing which is great, but we all know that they are just happy that they are making us broke because of how good their food is. And I'm totally ok with that.

    (5)
  • Jason W.

The lamb shawarma and gyro were decent with fresh lettuce, onion, etc., while the fries were generic frozen and the drinks were canned soft drinks. For about $8 a person it wasn't too expensive. The staff were inviting and helpful, but the seating area had some trash/salt left on tables from previous patrons. We left satisfied but not impressed.

  • April N.

This is Greek Food!! Hubby and I shared the lamb shawarma, baba ganouj and lamb gyro, and we were in Heaven! It's just a little walk up counter and card tables for dining in kind of place, but they were spot on with everything we had! The prices are great too, we will be back!

If you love Gyros the only place to go is Gyro Zone. They pack enormous flavor into every one on the menu. The restaurant is nothing to look at but don't miss it. And you must order the Greek fries.

Everything on the menu is delicious but I love the Gyro Salad! Make sure to get a piece of baklava. It's heavenly!

    (5)
  • Richard M.

Truly authentic Greek comfort food. They offer proper phone orders, and orders are always accurate, and prepared in timely manner. Their Greek fries are some of the best to be had across the land; however, their fries are a slightly too soft some times, that I believe is from fryer not being to temperature during their busy hours. Generous portions and modestly priced.

there was a lil jerusalem kid in there screaming at me saying "youre not my dad!!!!!!" and decor was eh..... but their tacos were to die for! but they ran out of coleslaw

Had a great meal prepared by Gyro Zone. We did not have time to cook for a group of six. They prepared a feast to go consisting of Greek salad, hummus, baba ghanouj, rice, and the fixings for chicken shawarma and beef/lamb euros, with baklava for dessert. It was all delicious, prepared on time, reasonably priced, and the service was extremely friendly and helpful. Our guests were delighted and so were we.

Tried this place after moving back into the area. It used to be another gyro joint when I lived here a few years ago. I had the lamb shawarma and an order of Greek fries, and both were absolutely delicious. The prices are good, the proprietor is friendly and polite, and the menu is large. Don't roll in expecting to be able to comfortably seat a party of four, though - there is very little seating, and this place is best suited for take out. Thinking about trying a vegetarian dish next time. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Meh...I've had better. I admit, I was a frequenter of the old gyro restaurant that was housed in this location prior to renovation. Miss it dearly. Anywho, I visited the new Gyro spot of U.P a couple of weeks ago and was impressed by how much things have changed. The newly renovated Gyro Zone's decor is DEFINITELY an upgrade. Nothing fancy, but absolutely better than the old restaurant. Customer service is okay, as we entered they barely acknowledged my husband and I while chatting to obvious regulars. As for the food, they have a great selection of Greek inspired dishes. I ordered the regular gyro and fries and was NOT impressed. The meat was overly seasoned and the Tskavi (spelling?) was watery. Fries were good.

Didnt feel like cooking and tired of the same boring places around here. Looked on yelp to find a well reviewed spot and Gyro Zone caught our eye. Just a little spot, nothing special about the decor. The food on the other hand was so delicious! Definitely hit the spot

Wow. What a great gyro. If eveyone knew how good this sandwich is, Subway would be out of business. Amazing flavor, made fresh. I see why the reviews are so good. The owner was very nice, and you can tell he takes pride in his product. I highly recommend that you stop in and see for yourself.

I talked to the worker (owner, I think) and they took over the business in mid July. The food was delicious. Got the classic chicken gyro and the lamb & beef gyro with the Greek fries. The Greek fries were good but they were a little bit heavy handed with the sauce and feta cheese.

At first glance, we were unsure, but upon entering the restaurant, we were certain that we had made a good decision on eating at Gyro Zone. The food was incredible, and the service was excellent. We ate at the Gyro Zone with an exchange student from the Middle East, and she verified the authenticity of the food, nearly in tears of joy from the first bites of "real" Arabic food she'd had in months! Our whole party of eight would eat there again in a heartbeat.

Holy cow, my classic gyro with extra tzatziki was so good... I made sure no one was looking and then I licked the paper it was wrapped in. Looking forward to trying the shawarma and the Greek fries next!

My wife was craving a gyro, so we checked Let me just start off by saying the food was amazing! My wife was wanting a gyro and being new to the area we didn't know where to go for one. We jumped on Yelp and came across this place. Immediately we grabbed the kid, hopped in the car, and headed straight over there. I had the Beef Shawarma and my wife had a Classic Gyro. Between us we split a large order of Greek Fries and we were not disappointed. The food was awesome, and we will definitely be coming back.

I was extremely bummed to find out that the old gyro place that had occupied this spot went out of business. To my surprise, driving by a few months later I noticed a new gyro place in its spot! I've been here quite a few times and have (so far) only ordered the lamb & beef gyros but they're easily the best in Tacoma. You're given an insanely generous amount of rice and meat for what you pay (about triple what you'd get at It's Greek To Me but for the same price). The owner and employees are always incredibly friendly and seem genuinely happy to see you when you come in. The interior is a bit "lacking", so to speak, but when I went in other other day the guys were cutting wood out front to re-design the interior walls and add on. Said they will be adding in newer/nicer seating, re-decorating the walls (which were left in pretty rough state from the previous tenants) and adding in a TV, which they will be showing World Cup games on this summer! If they get an alcohol license I may have to go live there. Anyway, to the food... the seasoning is what really sets these guys apart. The meat is second to none, and even the rice by itself could be a dish. The tzatziki is thick and flavorful and compliments everything brilliantly. None of the watered down, ranch-dressing tasting garbage you'll find at most "greek" restaurants in the area, save for a few. Even the hummus is seasoned and spiced to perfection. I look forward to going back and trying a broader range of items from their menu.

I didn't expect much from this place, which looks like a hole in the wall. In fact, for some reason when I was shopping at Trader Joe's a woman came up to me unsolicited and started raving about it. Coincidentally, I was hungry, so I headed there with my family after grocery shopping. We were not disappointed! All of the food we ordered very good. Specifically, I got a falafel sandwich and fries, and everything was tasty and fresh. The service was also excellent and friendly. This is a new favorite spot I hope to frequent, and it comes recommended by random grocery shoppers, who were right that it was great!

This place is amazing! The best gyros my husband and I have ever had.....and the Greek Fries....TO DIE FOR! It's dangerous just living down the street. We ate here twice last week! We're excited to introduce our friends to this place.

First, I was going through withdrawl during their remodel and transfer of business. When they re-opened, I was excited to go back. The food is still awesome, the service is great and the price is reasonable. I had the Lamb Schwarma (sp) and have been inspired to try everything on the menu. The ambiance isn't great, but the food is!

The wife and daughter were a little unsure of what they wanted, so we ordered a little bit of everything. Loved the gyros, falafel and especially the fries. Quick service, good value. We will be back.

This place lacks ambiance but is super tasty and authentic. Not a great place for a date.... unless your date is Lebanese and feeling home sick. Bottom line: GREAT. gyros. Five stars for the lamb gyro for sure.

  • Todd B.

It's outstanding to see this place back open. In talks with the owner, it sounded like he went through hell getting the town to approve the remodel, but it's well worth it. The gyro was incredible, and even the fries were well seasoned. I visited this place a month ago, and writing this review now makes me want to go back for lunch.

So good!! Can't branch away from the classic but I know I need to. Lentil soup is also amazing.

I LOVE this place. I found out about it at the beginning of September and have been here 5 times since then. The classic gyro is amazing. I've also had the chicken gyro and falafel, but I just love the classic. I always want to order something else to give it try, but I never do because the gyros are so good. Food never takes long plus you can call in your order before you come by. I'd give Gyro Zone more stars if I could.

  • David B.

I stopped in here for lunch. Being a fan of Greek food I had been putting off stopping by here until today. This was a good first visit. I had the classic gyros with a side of fries. The gyros was cooked to perfection. This was the best gyros that I have ever had. The pita was soft and warm. The meat was perfect and the portions were very generous. All the flavors and seasoning were spot on. Very fresh and tasty! Even the fries were yummy. Cooked to perfection and seasoned with paprika. I can't wait until my next visit.

  • Steve R.

Best gyro I've ever tasted by far. I eat one at least once or twice a week and love it every time. Highly recommended.

  • Bill M.

While you wait the smell of the food is out standing. The food was worth the short 15 minute wait. The clientele was a mixture from around the world. Quite the melting pot of people. The chicken Shawarma sandwich was better than any gyro I have ever had. By the way . I drove 35 minutes to get here and it was worth it.

  • Stephanie K.

What a grand find! Ordered the beef kabobs, came with fresh salad, hummus with pita and the perfectly seasoned kabobs over yummy rice! Also has the dolmas- refreshing flavor! Will definitely be back for more!

I live right around the corner from this place. It is soooo good, the first day I got a gyro and then the next day just had to get another. They are really that good. Not to mention their Greek fries ! TO DIE FOR ! Everyone that works there is really really nice and out going. It's Greek to me used to be good but The Gyro zone blew them out the water.

    (5)
  • Jeff A.

Had the classic gyro and Greek fries. De-frickin-licious! The gyro had great flavors and veggies tasted crisp and fresh. The fries, my oh my those fries! I'm accustomed to Greek fries having a few crumbles of feta and maybe some lemon juice. These had a wonderfully garlic/feta? sauce with this orange black powdered seasoning that tasted so good. Super friendly service and can't wait to try out the rest of the menu. But definitely make sure you get the Greek fries as they are not to be missed.

Great gyros! Loved the old place and these are a little different but equally as good. The owner is very nice and the prices are great. I will definitely be a regular.

    (5)
  • Allen B.

I'd give the gyros 8 out of 10. Well seasoned and filling. Just slightly better than Its Greek to Me. Unimpressed with the rice. They put the Tzatziki on it and that didn't work. Pretty limited menu and nondescript dining area. Get your gyro to go and enjoy.

This has the best Yelp restaurant rating in UP and it deserves it. I had the lamb shawarma today and it could not have been better. I think it is difficult to find good quality, thoughtfully prepared to order and skillfully flavored local restaurant food. This place does it well and I concur it is the best UP has to offer and competes well by any standard. I am so happy to find them and will be going back regularly for take out.

This is a great change for us. Small place with fresh delicious food.Prices are very good..I had the Chicken Shwarama and my wife had the Classic Gyro. We both loved our dish. We received a complimentary Pita bread and hummis dish. Owner is from Jeruselum and knows his stuff. WE will go back for sure.

Our family likes this place a lot. We are not gyros experts but we liked what we had in Greece. Service is sooo friendly and genuine.

  • Stacy M.

Place is OK. Decor gets 0 stars but I don't eat decor...so on to my salad with chicken. The salad was basic cut up lettuce (could have been chopped finer), 2 pieces of tomato, 2 olives, 1 pepperocini, a few bits of cucumber(maybe?), a dusting of feta cheese. The dressing was thick and creamy like cucumber flavored sour cream. (personally I like greek dressing as a vinaigrette). The chicken portion was skimpy-but what was there was warm and tender and had a curry flavor to it (a bit confusing as I don't think of curry as Greek). I would probably go back on my way to Trader Joes and try the Gyro.

Fantastic and great value. I had a chicken shawarma, and husband had a gyro. Both were great. The staff was friendly and helpful. Very casual interior. I'll be back!

Excellent Gyros & Middle eastern food in University place. We order the plates which comes with hummus and other yummy stuff + Salad and some extra Pitas and the quality & taste of the food has been amazingly consistent. Great find in South Sound and the Meat is delicious! Best gyros I have ever eaten and this includes some very good gyros we used to get in Az. Everything is very flavorful and the owner/staff is very friendly.

  • Vince A.

Just opened under new management. I am a big gyro eater. Up until now I found the best to be in Greek town in Detroit or Tarpon Springs but this takes them. New owner is very personable. Only problem is, the gyros are so good I can't bring myself to order anything else, although there is a good menu. I will do my best to go outside the box and try something else. Trust me, this establishment does not disappoint!

  • J M.

Really grubbin! There's not much else I can add to the review without repeating what's already been said. These guys have captured a real medi experience in UP. Having travelled all over the world eating middle eastern food, the gyro zone is a gem. I wish they served cold beer to go with this fresh and tasty food. Owner and other workers personable and nice.

The best middle eastern food I've had in a long time! It is delicious, affordable and authentic. Great service, very clean and friendly. Definitely the best place to eat in university place!

Tremendous Gyro place. We're lucky to live down the street from this place. We'd go here more, except for fear of the expanding waistband. I don't know what happened with whiners like Valerie K complaining about a new cook. We've been coming here regularly since March (before the cook change, which appeared to happen in June), and the food has been consistently awesome. Someone else complained about crinkle cut french fries in the Greek fries, and that's complete bullshit. I got them a week ago and they've been the same french fries that they've always been. We've had every combination of meat and gyro they offer and they've all been high quality, cooked skillfully, and expertly seasoned. Funny story though: my girlfriend doesn't like onions, so I always ask them to hold the onions when I'm ordering. I always get a "yea sure, no problem." But everytime, *BAM* onions. We don't even care because the food is so good, but it's turned into a running joke with us to see if we're actually going to get an order without onions! Despite the onion conundrum, we will continue to keep coming back. It is just that good.

  • Valerie K.

Uh oh, Gyro Zone. I saw in another review that you hired a new cook? The last two times I've ordered a salad from here it was terrible: swimming in about an inch of water and completely soggy. I really should have said something. It was so gross. The Greek fries aren't as good anymore either. They've started using crinkle cut fries, and they're just not as good. My boyfriend didn't enjoy his chicken shawarma sandwich either. After our bad experiences the last two times I'm not sure we can return unless they replace their current cook. I'm so sad because this was my go-to Greek place! Now it's just a disappointment. Please turn it around!!! :(

Every time I go to Gyro Zone, I ask for the Chicken Schwarma, slightly changed from the menu and they are so nice to make the changes, everything is made to order anyway. I always forget that I like this place and forget to go as often as I should, LOL. The food is good and the service is friendly.

  • Brandon H.

I started coming to gyro zone when I first moved out to u.p because I had a craving for east coast Greek food. Hands down some of the best gyros I have eaten. Cheap, plentiful, and you never leave hungry. The workers are always working hard, quality and quantity make you double check the price. 6$ for a gyro that'll incapacitate a smaller man. Greek fries are on point (feta tzatziki sauce French fries,) and their hummus is handmade and delicious.

    (5)
  • Matt C.

Hands down this place has the best Gyro's all around. Gyro's have full of flavor mouth watering. Out of all the Gyro joints whether it be the Greek Festival or a food truck you get a lot of BANG for your dollar. This is a must try.

    (5)
  • Mr. C. S.

Just okay. Burned falafel. I felt that the price was high for the amount and quality of food served. An answer to a customer who recieves over done food is NOT, the cook is new. The answer is; sorry can I remedy that for you. End of review.

I've passed this place so many times over the course of 3 years and finally decided to try it. The guy taking my order was super friendly. He explained what was on each item and helped me pick what would satisfy my taste buds. I forget the name but I got a plain #19. Hahah yes, I use numbers. The flavors were amazing and the meat was tender and seasoned to perfection. I also ordered the Greek fries and OH. EM. GEE... Easily one of my top 10 maybe 15 foods. lol.

  • Rebecca P.

Delicious. The classic lamb and beef gyro is every bit a most satisfying, juicy, well seasoned gyro one could dream of. The Greek fries are tasty - smothered in all of that tart, crumbly feta cheese and flakes which enhance plain fries to the "Greek" title. Have not had the chance to really taste other choices on the menu (because I love lamb and beef gyros so much), but I would dedicate a couple of eating opportunities to this place - if I lived closer. There is a parking lot. But, it can be a little crowded because parking can be tight. I do want to say that the level of delicious-ness is on par with Aladdin Falafel Corner in the University District, but what is fantastic about Gyro Zone is that they take cards (unlike cash only Aladdin)! Coming back whenever chance happens.

I was introduced to this establishment by my friend when we first moved here and we've been back a few times. I've always felt happy/satisfied after every meal. My bf and I usually order the same thing (beef and/or lamb) because we just love them. We've ordered their Classic Gyro (beef and lamb), beef shawarma (thanks to The Avengers movie) and the beef/lamb dish. When you order a dish, it will include rice, salad and hummus. On our previous order, I decided to be a little bold and try their dolmas (stuffed grape leaves) and man oh man were they delicious. It had so much flavor! I actually took my time biting each piece wishing that each bite could last forever. We haven't sat in but it seems like their customer service is good. It does take a while for them to make the food but at least you know they are serving quality food. As far as parking it is limited because they share a lot with other business. We've always found parking but if it does get busy, parking might be a problem.

Food was very delicious and fresh and it definitely hit the spot. It was a bit pricey (our plates were 13.99) and I am used to getting bigger portions for much less here in Southern California, but it was still worth it. Very friendly staff.

    (5)
  • Heather H.

I really liked the Greek fries. They were covered in feta cheese and had a very delicious flavor. The pittas were also very good. There are very few authentic places to get good Mediterranean food in this area. I was quite satisfied with the authentic fresh flavors. I am still craving more of those Greek fries. I can't wait till the next time I eat there.

    (4)
  • Becky C.

The portions were HUGE, the food was fresh and the staff is very friendly. My husband had the beef/lamb gyro and fries and I had the beef/lamb Greek salad. While the food was not bad, I probably wouldn't come back here as I like to try new places, and honestly was not incredibly impressed with flavor of the food (lots of sauce and feta...almost too much). Also, I like my gyro to have strips of meat as opposed to ground, which was a bit disappointing. I usually do not crave gyros, so I may go back if I am really in the mood because it is close and reasonably priced, and again VERY nice staff :)!

This place is great!! Doesn't look like much from the street, but don't let looks deceive you. Clean and tidy, with seating, and super friendly and generous staff. My feta sandwich was fresh, and really filling, and my date's chicken gyro was flavorful - mildly spicy and fantastic. The baba ganoush was the best I've ever had (don't tell my Greek grandma!) and the pitas were homemade, warm and perfect. We couldn't resist trying both the baklava and chocolate baklava - perfect layers of golden filo and spiced nuts. We will be back -- OFTEN!!

  • Jennifer R.

My only words.... OH MY GOSH, MIND BLOWN! Absolutely delicious from beginning to end! Service was great, the guys working were super nice. I ordered the Greek salad & my husband got the Lamb & beef gyro... And we got Greek fries... The hummus was to die for! The baklava was super tasty. Everything was just epic. Worth the drive no matter where you live!!!

I've been here a few times. I always have the gyro. Both the chicken and regular gyro are worth a try. Nothing to write home about but when you are looking for something besides a burger and fries its a good place to go.

  • Jon M.

Delicious food at a fair price. The owner and employees are friendly and personable. The classic gyros is delicious, as are the Greek fries. The dining room is nothing special but it's clean and serviceable, and there's always something on TV (usually soccer). Pro tip: Order gyros to go, head down to Narrows Brewing and enjoy a nice view and a pint with your food.

These are the best gyros in the Tacoma area! Friendly service and great food. Calling ahead to place your order can very helpful as they can be busy!

New to this place and Greek food in general. My very first gyro and it was delicious. My allllll time favorite was the Greek fries though. It was cheesy and garlic goodness. I can't wait to come back because these fries were worth it. The prices are amazing compared to the amount of food you get. I literally could not finish it so I would recommend sharing if you're getting the plate like I did. :)

Hit this up after Duck Daze since I didn't want "the usual" stuff and wanted to support local. We had 2 originals, a chicken gyro, large Greek fries, and a Greek salad for 4. Food come as completed which meant it was hot and ready. Don't worry about the wait if any, it was worth it. My son had the salad (he has his moods) which was loaded with the good stuff (feta, pepper chinos, cucumbers, pitted olives, & tomatoes)! Good size for any appetite to be a meal. Big order of fries with feta cheese, garlic sauce, and fresh parsley. Good flavor and crisp taste. Gyros are on point! Don't remember if there was a half & half option but if so it would have been my choice! Would suggest bringing some gum or some mints for kisses later but hey it is worth it. Gyros filled up the girls and I was well satisfied! We would be more regulars if closer for sure!

We stopped by here on the way home from seattle, coming from sacramento's large greek population, we are spoiled with gyros and dolmas and were were slightly wary about the place. Our fears subsided when we took a bite of one of the best gyros I've had to date. I ordered the classic gyros, friends bought veggie sandwiches and shawrmas, everything was delicious. The greek fries were great as well and this was the first place that served spanakopita with a side salad, most places its just an afterthought. The food here made the drive to sacramento a bit hard because one, we wanted more food and two we was getting so sleepy from stuffing ourselves originally. Overall this place though in a weird location (at least for me) was worth the slight detour from the free way to go and try. Next time i'm in town im coming here again! pros: great food family oriented cons: two guys working - slower food

This restaurant has the best gyros I've ever had. The people who work there are very friendly. I'm a picky eater, and they have no problem taking my order with alterations to the menu. The value you get here is the among the best I've seen in Tacoma. A classic gyro should leave most feeling pretty full.

  • Chelsea Laine H.

I live near this place and always drive by however I have never stopped in...until now! Wish I hadn't waited so long. The decor is limited, just your average strip mall place, but the food doesn't disappoint! The guys behind the counter were also friendly! I placed my order to go and it was ready in a flash. I got the hummus sandwich (which comes on the same pita as a gyro) and lentil soup. The sandwich was sooo good with just the right amount of spices/seasoning! The soup was also delicious. Can't wait to go back to try the falafel!

The most amazing gyros! The meat is exquisite and the owner is very friendly! A must go if you are around this area :)

  • Tracy M.

We haven't been there for awhile, it is still good. I found out that the reason they put tahini on their falalfel sandwiches instead of tzatziki sauce is because they make them vegan. They happily substituted tzatziki sauce for us. My husband and s on ordered the lamb and beef gyro meal. It was a heaping portion of meat over rice, with a small greek salad, hummus and a large slice of thick pita bread. The inside might not look like much, but the food and service are great.

  • Mog V.

This little restaurant will not disappoint you. I was going to post my pics but there are more than enough to give you an idea that they rock and locals dig them as was evident by the not stop steam of repeat customers. Very flavorful you will leave satisfied. As Arnold said "I'll be back".

Best gyro I have had. Great service, even better menu. Definitely going to be a regular.

  • Jessica O.

The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because of thr cleanliness...but I'm a stickler for that. And the door was pretty drafty. I got the classic Gyro, my husband got the lamb shwarza (or something like that) and we "shared" the greek fries and a large soda. Our bill was about $20. Both Gyros were incredible. Tons of flavor and were huge! Definately a meal on their own. The 2 guys working were super friendly and attentive. We will definately be going back.

Greek Cuisine

Greek food is a fine melody of the finest pressed olive oil, fresh fermented bread, colorful vegetables, juicy meat, sea food all cooked in spices and fresh rosemary. The people from Greek were great scholars who aimed to excel in everything they do. The results are quite visible in their food as they are the inventors of olive oil which is beneficial to health. Greeks also made different type of wines from the best quality of grapes fermented in controlled environment.

Today, you can find hundreds of restaurants offering authentic Greek food or popularly termed as Mediterranean cuisine in New York city alone. People wait in line to taste the exotic Greek dishes like saganaki, taramasalata, souvlaki, loukoumades, spanakopita, moussaka, and many more. One thing which most people like about these authentic Greek dishes is abundant use of lemon juice, olive oil, fresh rosemary and sea salt. A smart mix of few ingredients can virtually take you on the pebble streets of beautiful city of Greece.

For those who don't have time to enjoy fine dining should try tasting the famous souvlaki with pita which is type of meat dish, also a trademark Greek fast food. For those who are vegetarian, or vegan can try different versions of Greek Salad. So, if you wish to enjoy a hearty yet healthy meal that tastes divine then try dining at the best Greek restaurant in your city. Greek cuisine not only tastes good but also help maintain your body in a natural way through healthy diet.
